The California Virtual Campus, in partnership with Los Angeles Trade Tech College, is offering FREE online courses to concurrently-enrolled high school students. You can earn transferable college credit and high school credit. Additionally, these courses will prepare you to take the Advanced Placement exams.

The California State Summer School for the Arts is currently accepting applications for InnerSpark, one of the country's premier summer arts institutes on the campus of the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.

Christopher Merfalen Mendiola, class of 2008, was recently promoted to the "8th & I" Ceremonial Drill Squad in Washington, D.C., after graduating as the honorman of his U.S. Marine Corps platoon in August. He is pictured here with his loving grandmother, Christina Dorame. When asked about her grandson's success, Christina attributes it to SA athletics. "It's the football team that made all the difference," she says. Christopher will serve a two year term in Washington, which will include the inauguration of President-elect Obama. Go Saints!

Charles Drew University of Medicine offers a free, six-week summer school course in order to introduce the health professions to minority students. The University is located in downtown Los Angeles and the program is conducted during the day. If your son or daughter is interested in applying please let Ms. Brennan know in the library so that she can inform everyone of any carpooling opportunities.

Did you know that students have access to free study exams for the AP tests, SATs, and ACTs from home? These resources and many more are available free of charge from the Long Beach Public Library. Students simply need to sign up for a free city library card, which they can do at our campus Library. Ryan Baker, our local teen librarian (pictured here), was on campus last Thursday conducting a demo for the science classes of the library databases. These databases include career and college information as well as science experiments and research materials. See Ms. Brennan in the Caruso Library for further details.

Over fifty juniors participated in the field trip to Cal Poly Pomona in November. The tour included information about academics, housing, student life, and campus history. The university is located on the former estate and horse ranch of W. K. Kellogg, of the famed Kellogg cereal brand. Pictured here is one of the three student guides, who gave the participants a first hand account of life as a Cal Poly Bronco.
