St. Anthony (5-5, second place in Del Rey League) will host Newport Harbor on Friday at Clark Field, while Lakewood received an at-large bid and will travel to Brea Olinda in the first round.

St. Anthony had a chance to grab the Del Rey League title in its regular season finale at St. Paul on Friday night but instead got a helping of humble pie in a 49-7 loss.

St. Anthony needed a win on the road against St. Genevieve on Friday night to stay in the Del Rey League hunt, and the Saints used overtime heroics to get it 20-14.

St. Anthony stud sophomore running back Sone Aupiu was a big part of the Saints’ critical league win over La Salle last week. Aupiu rushed 19 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his Del Rey League total to five touchdowns in two games.

A hot start and a stressful finish delivered a Homecoming win for St. Anthony football at Clark Field on Friday night. The Saints scored the first three touchdowns of the night against visiting La Salle, and then held off a late charge by the Lancers in a 27-21 victory.

St. Anthony alum Curtis Weaver made history last weekend in Boise State’s win over UNLV. Weaver, a junior with the Broncos, had three sacks in the game, which gives him 29.5 in his two and a half years at Boise State.

St. Anthony football opened its Del Rey League scheduled with a 36-22 win over visiting Harvard-Westlake on Friday night at Clark Field.
