St. Anthony tabs former standout, alumni as new Basketball Coach

After a thorough search, St. Anthony High School has selected Chris Morrison to head the Saints Boys Basketball Program. Morrison, a Long Beach native and a former assistant coach at Long Beach Poly, has recently been the Varsity Girls coach at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente.

“Chris brings a new energy combined with his love of St. Anthony High School and its proud tradition”, said Athletic Director Brian Walsh. “As an alumni of St. Anthony, Chris understands what it means to be a Saint. His experience with student-athletes on, and off, the court will be an invaluable asset to the school”.

Morrison graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1991 and was a stand-out two year varsity basketball player where he earned first team all-league and first-team all-CIF honors. He attended Western Washington University where he played basketball and graduated with a B.A in business. After graduating from Western Washington he signed a professional basketball contract to play in Europe. He has coached at Western Washington, and spent two years coaching at Long Beach Poly. Last season at Bishop Amat High School, he recorded a 22-6 record where his team averaged 64 points per game.

“We are proud to add Mr. Morrison to our growing St. Anthony High School Team of coaches and educators”, expresses Principal Mike Schabert. “With our largest incoming Freshman class in at least 10 years, Chris will have the opportunity to shape many young people in the years to come. We are proud to welcome Chris home and I have every confidence in the future success of St. Anthony High School”.
