SAKIT (Saint Anthony Kids in Tinikling) members practice on a weekend to master a modern routine. Produced and created by Paloma Torres '12.
Last year during Freshman Retreat, a few SA students were learning how to say words in Tagalog on the bus ride back to the school. After a few minutes of hilarity, Saint Anthony's once-proud Filipino club, now named SARAP (Saint Anthony Representing All Pilipinos), was re-born.
Once a week, students meet to talk about the culture of the Philippines. Although the majority of the group's members are Filipino, anyone is welcome to join. Some highlights of the club's meetings have included discussions about the Filipino alphabet and a Filipino dinner in Cerritos.
With Mr. Salmingo and Mrs. Dulay as advisors, the club has also taken a few of its members and formed a dance team called SAKIT (Saint Anthony Kids in Tinikling). SAKIT has occasional practices, where the group learns and rehearses different Filipino dances. With a few more practices, SAKIT hopes to perform during BOP Week. Please see the video below, produced by Paloma Torres '12 to see a slideshow of their practice.
