8th Annual SAINTS RUN Unites Community

Long Beach, CA.   The SAINTS RUN 2017 will kickoff in Shoreline Aquatic Park at 8:00 am sharp, on Saturday, March 11th. Each year the SAINTS RUN has grown with participants and sponsor support raising over $200,000 since its inception. All proceeds help to fund St. Anthony High School’s (SAHS) financial aid program assisting families in the Long Beach area who would not otherwise be able to afford a quality, Catholic, college preparatory education.

Now in its 8th year, the SAINTS RUN expects to draw a crowd of more than 1,200 participants from all over the Southland.  Activities begin at 7:00 a.m., with the run scheduled to start promptly at 8:00 a.m.  The race begins and ends in beautiful Shoreline Aquatic Park in downtown Long Beach. Participants and spectators are able to enjoy the SAINTS RUN award ceremony, where the top three runners in each age category receive official SAINTS RUN medals.  All race entrants receive a specially-designed souvenir SAINTS RUN T-shirt along with water and treats at the finish. Many stay to continue the festivities by dining at nearby Gladstone’s & Shenanigans, both establishments adding sponsorship support to the high school’s fundraiser.  St. Mary Medical Center is also onsite to provide optional glucose and blood screening tests. The race is organized and hosted by the SAHS PEP - Parents and Educator in Partnership organization.

More than 40 Official Race Sponsors joined the race again this year including: Molina Healthcare, Moncure Family, St. Mary Medical Center, The Port of Long Beach, Balboa Island Saints, Caruso Ford, Dougherty Ins. Brokers, Douglas A. Smith MD, Lane-Aire Manufacturing, L.B. Convention & Visitor Bureau, St. Anthony’s High School Foundation, and the Press

Telegram. This year’s sponsors once again show the community’s support for Long Beach’s only Catholic High School.

“St. Anthony High School has emerged as an educational leader in our city, academically and athletically,” says the school’s president, Gina Maguire, “giving its students the opportunity to attend a college of their choice for the past 97 years.”

Over the past 8 years 100% of SAHS graduates have gone on to attend college or serve in the military. The graduating class of 2016 earned $17.2 million in college scholarships, with 80% of them being accepted into four-year universities.

St. Anthony High School offers a co-educational college preparatory curriculum with a wealth of extracurricular activities and leadership development opportunities. More information is available on the school's website: www.LongBeachSaints.org or by contacting the high school at 562-435-4496. SAINTS RUN Background Information: The race is organized through the SAHS Parents and Educator in Partnership (PEP) organization. All proceeds benefit St. Anthony High School’s students in need financial aid program. St. Anthony High School provides students from all economic backgrounds regardless of ability to pay, the opportunity to be part of a small high school support community where every student receives a college preparatory education. All courses at SA are University of California-approved, and every student graduates fully qualified and prepared for success in college. SA's students come from all neighborhoods in the greater Long Beach community and the school's diversity reflects the city it serves - Long Beach, CA - the most diverse city in the United States. A large percentage of students would not be able to experience the advantage of a St. Anthony College Preparatory education without significant financial assistance. St. Anthony’s is a co-educational Catholic high school, founded in 1920 by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart that provides quality, affordable, values-based education to families in the greater Long Beach area from diverse cultural, religious, and economic backgrounds coming together to participate in a rigorous program of academic excellence and community involvement.
