The complete renovation of St. Anthony’s Science Building, a two story historic building formerly leased to a charter public middle school, began last May. The project included renovation of three state-of-the-art science labs (chemistry, biology and physics/technology), five classrooms and meeting spaces, as well as construction of new boys and girls bathrooms.
“This summer, St. Anthony High School took a giant step forward, completing the full renovation of our Science Building, funded through the generosity of several major donors. This building project enables us to expand our science, technology, engineering and math curriculum and better prepare students who have an interest in these areas for both college and career”, said school President Gina Rushing Maguire.
Renovations also began at the school’s athletic field on Clark and Del Amo, and the historic bougainvillea “Arbor in the Courtyard” was rebuilt on the main campus, providing seating and shade for students.
The new Chapel was also ready at the start of school to welcome St. Anthony’s newly appointed Chaplain and faculty member, Fr. Raymond Marquez. Fr. Raymond celebrates daily mass in the Chapel at 7:15am for all students, faculty, staff and community members.
St. Anthony High School has been Long Beach’s only Catholic high school since it was founded in 1920. For the past five years, 100% of St. Anthony High School’s graduates have gone on to attend college or to proudly serve our military, and well over 70% go on to attend four-year colleges or universities each year.
“We can feel the energy and excitement here at SAHS as a new school year begins. We welcome the Class of 2018, our newest Saints, who embark on their journey to the college of their choice. Exciting things are happening at St. Anthony High School”, said Mike Schabert, Principal.
