Eric Cooper Selected to Lead Saints Boys' Basketball Program

COOPER NAMED HEAD BASKETBALL COACH AT ST. ANTHONY HIGH SCHOOL

St. Anthony High School has announced the selection of Eric Cooper as Head Basketball coach for the “Saints.”

Cooper joins St. Anthony after five highly successful seasons at La Verne Lutheran where he took the low-profile program at this small school and built it into a Southern California and State powerhouse. The year prior to Cooper’s arrival at La Verne Lutheran, the Trojans had a record of 7-12. In Cooper’s first year, the Trojans went 29-1 and won the CIF Championship. Over the five years, Cooper led the Trojans to five straight CIF and State playoff appearances, winning two CIF Championships and back-to-back State Championships. He was also named State Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011 by Cal Hi Sports. Prior to his stint at La Verne Lutheran, Cooper had served as assistant coach for the WNBA Phoenix Mercury and the ABA’s Anaheim Surf, and he also served as Head Coach of the ABA Ontario Warriors.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Cooper to St. Anthony High School,” says Principal Mike Schabert. “We are excited to have Coach Cooper leading the Saints both on and off the court. His strength of character and willingness to help each student-athlete succeed in basketball and in life is his greatest asset. We look forward to Coach Cooper carrying forward the proud tradition of Saints basketball.”

“Coach Cooper brings to St. Anthony a track record of proven success,” adds Athletic Director Brian Walsh. “We are pleased to welcome a coach of Eric Cooper’s caliber to our growing program. We look forward to Coach Cooper’s contribution to the legacy of St. Anthony Basketball.”

Eric Cooper replaces Coach Chris Morrison who stepped down in March to pursue coaching at the collegiate level.
